      When is the next CNGS Exam?

      The CNGS examinations occur on a rolling basis. Once a learner has completed the course and their application has been approved, they may take the Certified Nutritional Specialist Examination.

      How do I know if this is for me?

      This program is for:

      • Nutrition Professionals (CNS, RDN, DACBN, CCN, others)
      • Advanced healthcare providers from a wide range of disciplines who meet the course prerequisites listed below (MD/DO, ND, PharmD, physician assistants, MSN, NP, RN nurses, DC)

      Learners who meet one of the following criteria will be best prepared to successfully complete the course:

      • Masters or Doctorate in nutrition or related healthcare field
      • Coursework or continuing education credits in nutritional biochemistry; nutrients in human health; and nutrition clinical assessment, intervention, and therapeutics

      What are the minimum requirements to get certified as a CNGS?

      1. Education

       

       

      Degree and Training Requirements


      Degree Requirement: The candidate must hold one of the following:


      -Master of Science or doctoral degree in health science or medicine, from a United States regionally accredited college or university, or its foreign equivalent;   


      Training Requirement: All candidates must have completed all three modules of the American Nutrition Association (ANA) Nutritional Genomics Training program. Please do not apply to sit for the exam until you have completed the training program.

       

       

      2.  Examination

       

      The candidate must pass the Certification Examination for Personalized Nutrition Practitioners. The exam is offered two times per year and is offered online.


      The Certification Examination for Personalized Nutrition Practitioners is designed to test the knowledge and skills acquired by those who have successfully completed the educational requirements outlined above.  


      The first Certification Examination for Certified Nutritional Genomics Specialist exam will be held in Fall, 2022. The application processing fee is $100, and the examination fee is $150.  

       

       

      3. Experience

       

      -State license or certification as a healthcare practitioner in the U.S. with nutrition in legal scope of practice, including MD/DO, DC, ND,NP, PA, APRN, Pharmacists, RDN, or foreign equivalent; and


      -Completion of one comprehensive case study using the ANA approved format. (Case study may be submitted after passing the exam.)
       

      What are the learning objectives?

      This program consists of five self-paced modules designed to be completed in 8-14 hours of learning time each. Each module will consist of:

      • PowerPoint presentation with audio and transcript
      • Required readings (published articles, textbook chapters)
      • Glossary of key terms for Modules 1 and 2
      • Biochemical Pathway illustrations
      • Quiz questions to assess learning outcomes
